Kaukahi means the one who stands alone. In this intricate piece, the central figure represents the bravest of Hawaiian warriors and one who perseveres with singleness of purpose. Always present are the 'uhane kia'i (the guardian spirits) that overlook and guide from above. The 'aumakua (ancestors in animal form) are the mano (shark), the mo'o (gekko), and the i'o (hawk). All blend together in a fluid energy.
