The Polynesians used various designs to tell their geneology and express cultural history. On some islands they were used as tattoo on the body. Other designs were used on their bark cloth (tapa) or in the petroglyphs carved in rock. Anthony Kalaemaka Kekona is Kanaka Maoli (full-blooded Hawaiian) from Maui. His designs use images from all Aboriginal Polynesia such as Hawaiian, Maori, Tahitian, Samoan, Tongan and Fijian. They are often created from his dreams or passed to him from na kupuna (ancestors). Kekona's art has a spiritual energy called mana. He strives to share his blessings to all keiki (children). Portions of his art sales go to non-profit organizations that help guide children and perpetuate Hawaiian programs. Mahalo for your support.
